IND vs BAN: Kohli reveals motivation behind his stellar knock

Indian batting maestro, Virat Kohli was the centrepiece of this victory. He played a magnificent innings, registering his 48th ODI century, a remarkable achievement that came off the final ball. After a hiatus of eight years in World Cups, Kohli managed to score a memorable hundred, notching 103 runs from 97 deliveries, decorated with six boundaries and four towering sixes. The stunning performance rightfully earned him the ‘Man of the Match’ accolade.

Reflecting on the match and his innings during the post-game presentation, Kohli's sentiments highlighted his passion and determination. He acknowledged the outstanding performance of Ravindra Jadeja, suggesting that the all-rounder was equally deserving of the 'Man of the Match' award.

The modern-day maestro further expressed his intent to play a pivotal role in the game, emphasizing his earlier World Cup outings where he fell short of converting starts into big scores.

“Sorry for stealing it (PoTM award) from Jaddu, I wanted to make a big contribution. I have had a few fifties in World Cups, haven't really converted. I just wanted to finish off the game this time around and hang around till the end which is what I have done over the years,” said Kohli.

Kohli then fondly reminisced about the beginning of his innings, describing it as a "dream start" with two free-hits, a six, and a boundary within the first four balls that bolstered his confidence. Commenting on the pitch, Kohli felt it was conducive to his style of play, which primarily revolved around timing the ball and finding the gaps.

“I was telling Shubman, even if you dream about a situation like that, you'll just go back to sleep, you won't think it's real. It was a dream start for me, first four balls, two free-hits, a six and a four. Just calms you down gets you into the innings. The pitch was pretty good and allowed me to play my game - just time the ball, hit the gaps, run hard and get the boundary whenever needed,” added the 34-year-old.

The camaraderie within the Indian team is evident, and Kohli highlighted the vibrant atmosphere in the dressing room. He highlighted the significance of momentum in such a lengthy tournament and expressed the joy and pride of playing in front of the home crowd.

“There's a great atmosphere in the change room, we are loving each others' company, the spirit is there for everyone to see. We understand it's a long tournament, you need to create some momentum. Special feeling playing at home, playing in front of all these people,” concluded Kohli.
