Why Did Shakib Al Hasan Use A Strap While Batting? BCB's Chief Physician Reveals

Bangladesh's all-rounder and former captain Shakib Al Hasan grabbed the attention of fans in a never-before-seen avatar. He was seen biting down on a black strap wrapped around his neck while at the crease during the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.

It has been understood that the reason behind this was a self-devised mechanism developed in order to keep his head from falling over when playing the ball, as revealed by his mentor Mohammad Salahuddin and BCB's chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury,

"He has come up with this strap. It is completely his idea. It has not come from us. He is working on a way to hold his head position while batting. He was trying to manage this with a neck brace previously, so this strap thing is also in a trial-and-error phase. He has tried it in the nets. He has done a lot of shadows with it too," as told by Dr. Chowdhury.

Shakib's journey has been marred by a significant challenge as he is suffering from a vision-related condition known as Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSC). Diagnosed last year, because of this condition fluid accumulates beneath the retina, leading to distorted vision.

In order to overcome this trouble, Shakib has dedicated countless hours to refining his batting technique, in order to ensure that he maintains optimal sight of the ball without compromising his form.

Dr Chowdhury believes that Shakib is the only one who can tell if this latest experiment is working for him and said:

"It is personal thing from him. He will understand if it is working for him or not. I think as long as it doesn't cause a health hazard, it's fine."

Shakib Likely To Miss 2nd Test vs India

As reported by SportsTak, the star all-rounder, who was seen struggling while bowling in the first Test match could miss the upcoming second Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur as he is currently under observation.

His recent form has received much criticism, especially regarding his contributions to the team and whether he deserves a spot in the team. But Bangladesh management and even his teammates have supported him all this while.
