On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that KL Rahul will be back for India in the upcoming Asia Cup. Rahul has been sidelined since IPL 2023 because of a thigh injury he suffered while leading the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Ajit Agarkar, the BCCI Chief Selector, stated that the player's rehabilitation is now finished, and he will be prepared for the tournament.

So where will Rahul bat for the Men in Blue in the Asia Cup? Will he continue to bat at his favored No. 5 position? More importantly, is he fit enough to keep wickets in the 50-over format? Agarkar had all the answers prepared for India's devoted supporters.

Rahul will be their primary wicket-keeper batsman, according to Agarkar, though they also have backup batsmen Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in case things go south. The former India pacer termed Rahul a ‘very important player’ of the squad, and thus, he expects him to be fully fit before the Asia Cup.

"Rahul plays as a wicketkeeper batter. The hope is he would be fit to do that from the first match. This is just a small setback. Keeping and batting is his role and he is a very important player," Ajit Agarkar told the reporters in the press conference.

Rahul has a terrific record in ODIs, having aggregated 1986 runs in 54 matches at an average of 45.13. He, along with the returning Shreyas Iyer and ever-young Virat Kohli form a powerful middle-order, and no wonder, his return will make India potential title contender in the coming Asia Cup.

Asia Cup will begin on August 30, with Pakistan taking on Nepal. India's campaign will begin on September 2 when they take arch-rivals Pakistan in Pallekele.
