The cricketing community is watching with excitement as teams prepare for the upcoming World Cup 2023. However, for Team India, a shadow of concern looms with the inconsistent performance of their all-rounder, Hardik Pandya.

Hardik's recent stint against West Indies left much to be desired. Despite scoring a half-century in the ODI series, his consistency floundered, amassing just 77 runs in the four T20I innings. Furthermore, his bowling, which often complements his batting finesse, also seemed subdued, securing only one wicket in the ODIs and four in T20Is.

In an episode of Follow the Blues on Star Sports, former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his concerns about Hardik's current form, specifically highlighting his bowling performance.

He emphasized the importance of the 29-year-old's role as an all-rounder in the upcoming World Cup, where he is expected to not only contribute as a batsman but also deliver around 6 to 7 overs per innings.

“Hardik Pandya’s form is a little bit of concern, his bowling because you will have to do a lot of physical work in the world Cup because you need him as the all-rounder not just a batter so at least 6-7 over per innings is what is expected from him,” said Manjrekar.

The renowned commentator drew parallels with India's 2011 World Cup victory, attributing it to players like Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh, who were primarily recognized as batsmen but also provided crucial bowling support. In this context, Manjrekar pointed out the significance of Hardik's bowling performance as a key factor in his overall impact on the game.

“When India won the world cup in 2011, it was because of people like Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh pure batters who bowled a bit, so Hardik Pandya’s bowling is very important,” added the Indian veteran.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, slated to begin on August 30th, emerges as a litmus test for Hardik. Competing in Group A against the likes of arch-rivals Pakistan and newcomers Nepal, the performance here could set the tone for India's World Cup journey.

A resurgence of form in the Asia Cup would not only bolster Pandya's confidence but also assuage the anxieties of millions of Indian fans. A return to his peak form could be the much-needed catalyst propelling Team India to World Cup glory.
