In a significant development, India named a formidable 17-member squad, besides traveling reserve Sanju Samson, for the Asia Cup 2023. In an unexpected move, the Men in Blue decided to include Prasidh Krishna as a fifth seam bowling option, neglecting veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the marquee event.

Meanwhile, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar has explained the reason behind Chahal's omission from India's Asia Cup 2023 squad.

Speaking in the press conference, Agarkar stressed that the committee had to choose one between Chahal and Kuldeep and hence preferred the latter, considering his recent ODI performances.

"Terrific performer but we had to look at the balance of the team. To fit in two wrist spinners was difficult," said Agarkar.

Meanwhile, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the chances of getting into the World Cup squad is alive for all three potential spin bowling options- R Ashwin, Chahal and Washington Sundar.

"Doors are not closed for anyone including Ravi Ashwin, Chahal and Sundar for the World Cup," said Sharma.
