Team India slipped to a 22-run defeat against England on a thrilling Day 5 of the Lord’s Test on Monday, July 14. Apart from the unfortunate outcome, the Indian team was also marred with a key injury to dynamic and in-form wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.

It is worth noting that Pant suffered a finger injury earlier in the match, prompting Dhruv Jurel to take up the gloves in his place.

Nonetheless, the cricketer still managed to punch out a fighting 74 in the first Indian innings of the match from 112 balls. After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill has now given a crucial update regarding Pant’s potential return to the playing XI for the upcoming fourth Test of the series.

While speaking with the reporters at the press conference, Indian captain Shubman Gill dropped a huge update regarding the fate of in-form wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. While Pant suffered a finger injury on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test, which subsequently prompted Dhruv Jurel to take his place, captain Gill has now confirmed that the 27-year-old cricketer has already gone for scans.

“Rishabh Pant went for scans and he should be fine for next Test," Gill said as reported by Sahil Malhotra from TOI

Playing with an injury, Rishabh Pant composed 74 fighting runs for India in the first innings of the Lord’s Test. However, the blistering stumper scored just nine during India’s tense run chase in the decisive innings of the match on Day 5.

Overall, Pant has aggregated 425 runs from six innings of the series for Team India at a prolific batting average of 71.
