In a big injury scare to the Indian team, the star wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant, has walked off the field after hurting his finger while trying to stop a ball. The incident happened in the second session of Day 1 at Lord's, and Dhruv Jurel has replaced Pant behind the stumps.

Bumrah's Wayward Delivery Proves To Be A Nightmare For Pant

The Rishabh Pant injury happened in the 34th over of England's first innings. Jasprit Bumrah, the bowler, delivered a wayward delivery down the leg side. Ollie Pope tried to flick it towards the leg side, but missed it, and Pant managed to slow down its pace with his desperate dive. Pant saved two runs for his side, but hurt his finger in the process, and the physio had to be called in for treatment.

Initially, it looked like Rishabh Pant was fine to continue, after some treatment, but he decided to walk off after completing the Bumrah over. Thus, Dhruv Jurel is currently donning the gloveman role for India, and Pant did look in a lot of pain as he walked off the field.

India Need In-Form Rishabh Pant Back On Field

The intensity of the blow to Rishabh Pant is still unknown, but it would be a big setback if his injury does turn out to be serious and he doesn't bat in this Test. Rishabh Pant has been in great form in this series so far, with centuries in both innings of the opening Test and a fifty in the second game. His counter-attacking batsmanship is also key for India to put pressure on England, and thus the visitors need him to bat with the series levelled at 1-1.

Also, Rishabh Pant is the vice-captain of the side, thus, it would be interesting to see how his injury shapes up and the impact it makes on the performance of the Indian side.

Update From BCCI - Rishabh Pant is currently receiving treatment and is under the supervision of the medical team.
