Led by Ben Stokes, England held their nerves and pulled off a victory for the ages, pipping India by a narrow margin in the third Test at Lord's Cricket Ground. The Three Lions' commendable win helped them secure twelve crucial points and inch a step closer to the top spot in the World Test Championship standings.

Updated WTC Points Table After India's Narrow Defeat In Lord's Test

The International Cricket Council (ICC) updated the points table after India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the third Test against England. While the hosts took their tally to 24 points and claimed the second position with a PCT of 66.67, the Shubman Gill-led outfit slipped to the fourth place.

(Updated WTC points table)

As shown in the above table, India are currently placed fourth, having incurred two defeats in three matches in the ongoing WTC cycle. They have a PCT of 33.33, a number they would certainly like to improve in their upcoming games.

On the contrary, England inched closer to the top-ranked Australian side that has yet to lose a Test in the current cycle. The 2025 WTC final runners-up have beaten West Indies in two consecutive matches and might maintain their dream run if they emerge victorious in the ongoing Test at Sabina Park.

The West Indies are the only team to not have opened their account despite playing in the cycle. Defending WTC champions South Africa have yet to get off the mark as the Zimbabwe series wasn't a part of the cycle. New Zealand and Pakistan remain the only two sides who haven't played a Test in the WTC 2025-27.

Talking about the series between India and England, we have a long nine-day gap, and both teams will clash again in the penultimate affair at Old Trafford on the 23rd.
