South Africa pipped Zimbabwe to start off with a win in the opening match of the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series 2025. Dewald Brevis and Rubin Hermann overcame South Africa’s top-order jitters against the likes of Richard Ngarava and Trevor Gwandu in the second half of the game.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the first T20I of the series, as it panned out at the iconic Harare Sports Club in Harare on Monday, July 14.

Sikandar Raza Lifts Zimbabwe Up To 141

Batting first, Zimbabwe formed 141-6 from 20 overs after slipping to 55-3 around the halfway stage of the innings. Captain Sikandar Raza led his team from the front with an explosive 54* from just 38 balls, clattering three fours and two sixes in the process. Ryan Burl also listed a quick 29 off 20 before falling to Nandre Burger.

For South Africa, new ball pacemen Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger chipped in with a wicket each. George Linde, who curtailed Brian Bennett’s well-set stay in the 11th over of the innings, added two more to his tally off the final over to claim figures of 3-10 (3).

Dewald Brevis, Hermann Survive Ngarava’s Opening Burst

Chasing 142, South Africa lost T20I debutant and young opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius for a first-ball duck courtesy of a sharp caught-and-bowled from Richard Ngarava. The Zimbabwe speedster also cleaned up Reeza Hendricks, while Trevor Gwandu toppled captain Rassie van der Dussen for just 16 as the Proteas slipped to 38-3 inside the powerplay overs.

Rubin Hermann and Dewald Brevis subsequently shared a rapid 72-run stand for the fourth wicket to take South Africa past the 100-run mark. Hermann composed 45 runs off just 37 balls and Brevis blasted 41 off 17 balls before falling to Ngarava (3-35) and Gwandu (2-15) respectively. Corbin Bosch (23* off 15) and George Linde (3*) eventually steered South Africa to a five-wicket win in 15.5 overs.
