After months of deadlock on the venue for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headed by Jay Shah has given the go-ahead to Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) 'Hybrid Model' suggestion, which will ensure that matches will be played across Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Pakistan, who holds the hosting rights for Asia Cup 2023, will host their group matches (4) on their home soil, while the remaining nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. The six-nation tournament is scheduled to be played between August 31 and September 17.

PCB chairman Najam Sethi in a statement, has expressed his delight over PCB's hybrid model getting the green signal from ACC, after the BCCI refused to travel to Pakistan for the competition. Sethi further wished that India would have toured Pakistan, but understood BCCI's stance.

Here's what Sethi said

"I am elated that our hybrid version for the ACC Asia Cup 2023 has been accepted. This means the PCB will remain as the event host and stage matches in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue, which was required due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan,"

"Our passionate fans would have loved to see the India cricket team in action in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the BCCI’s position. Like the PCB, the BCCI also requires government approval and clearance before crossing borders,"

Sethi further thanked ACC president Shah for his efforts, who is also the secretary of BCCI.

"I appreciate the efforts of ACC President Jay Shah to strengthen the council so that we can collectively continue to protect each other's interests and also provide opportunities and platforms to emerging Asian nations."

This will be the first time since 2008, that Pakistan will host a multi-nation cricket event in the country. Sri Lanka are the current holder of the Asia Cup trophy, having won the 2022 edition in UAE, which was played in a 20-overs format.
