Young batter Najmul Hossain Shanto created history during the ongoing one-off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Shanto, who scored a century in the first innings, slammed a ton in the second innings as well on Day 3 of the Dhaka Test.

With this Shanto becomes the second Bangladesh batter to achieve this feat after former captain Mominul Haque, who slammed centuries in both innings of a Test against Sri Lanka back in 2018. Haque amassed 175 and 106 runs in the Chattogram Test, in respective innings.

Bangladesh have gained a massive 600+ lead by tea on Day 3 with score closing on 400. The hosts dismissed Afghanistan for 146 on Day 2 after being bundled out for 382 runs in their first innings.

Shanto, who eventually fell for 124, recorded 146 runs in the first innings as well, which was his third Test century in 23 matches.

Shanto's rich form lately

The last few months have been exceptional for the southpaw, having scored his maiden One-Day International (ODI) century against Ireland in May, helping Bangladesh chase down 320.

Shanto contributed heavily in Bangladesh's first-ever 3-0 T20I series win over England in March, scoring 144 runs to end as the top run-getter from both sides.

The Rajshahi-born was Bangladesh's leading run-getter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 with 180 runs.

The young batter was also nominated by ICC for Player of the Month for May 2023.
