On Sunday, The First Test match between South Africa and West Indies ended in a draw at the Queen's Park Oval.

Rewinding to Day 1, South Africa's skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first. The first day ended after 15 overs of play, as the rest of the day was spoiled by heavy rain. South Africa were 45/1, having lost Aiden Markram for 9.

Then, during the second day, the Proteas Men batted the entire day and added a run less than 300 after losing 7 wickets. This included a skilful innings by skipper Bavuma himself, who smashed 86 off 182.

Following this, Kraigg Brathwaite led West Indies managed to put up a total of  145/4 on day 3; however, the weather was looking towards a draw due to the rain-marred conditions. Eventually, on Day 4, South Africa bowled brilliantly as they bowled out West Indies for 233, and then SA was in a lead of 154 runs at the end of the day.

In an unexpected yet expected moment, Bavuma and Co declared their innings on 173 runs, hoping to win the game in the last few hours. However, the Windies gracefully took the challenge and ended things in a draw.

Reflecting upon the loss, Temba Bavuma said:

“We tried our best from our side. Just wasn't enough time in the end. Wicket didn't break up as much as we expected as well. The elements got the better of a good competitive game of cricket. Went with an extra batter to cushion our inexperience.

We'd like to be more ruthless as batters. Guy like Stubbs will take a lot of confidence from a knock like that. Lot of positives. We lost time because of the weather,” Bavuma said in the post-match presentation.

The two will next be seen in action on 15th August during the second Test at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
