The First Test between South Africa and West Indies at Queen's Park Oval concluded in a draw, despite rain interruptions and a tense final session on Day 5. 

South African captain Temba Bavuma, won the toss and chose to bat first. However, Day 1 saw limited action due to heavy rain, South Africa finished at 45/1. 


South Africa and West Indies Match Ended In Draw

On Day 2, the Proteas made significant progress and added nearly 300 runs but lost 7 wickets. Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi both scored 86, which helped South Africa reach 357 before being bowled out on the morning of Day 3. Jomel Warrican was impressive for the West Indies, as. he scalped 4 wickets.


West Indies' response was steady but rain again disrupted play. By the end of Day 3, they were 145/4. On Day 4, South Africa bowled out West Indies for 233, with Keshav Maharaj leading the attack as he claimed 4 wickets. 

South Africa, aimed to set a challenging target and scored quickly in their second innings and reached 173/3, Tristan Stubbs made a significant contribution and scored 68 off 50 balls. 

Alick Athanaze's Played Solid Knock Of 92 runs in 116 Balls

West Indies needed 298 runs in the final two sessions. In their chase, West Indies lost their captain Kraigg Brathwaite early, but Alick Athanaze's resilient 92 and solid partnerships with Kavem Hodge and Jason Holder ensured they held on. 

South Africa bowlers failed to take control and couldn't take the remaining wickets, and the match ended in a draw.

The series now moves to the second and final Test at Providence Stadium, Guyana, which is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2024.
