Contrary to previous reports, Indian stunners Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to miss out on India's season-opening Duleep Trophy starting from 5 September this year, according to ESPNcricinfo. 

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin are among the other notable names who will not be available for the tournament.

The reason behind not making the senior players like Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah available is that over the next five months, India are scheduled to play 10 Tests: five at home whereas the remaining in Australia. 

Hence, for them to be able to rest adequately ahead of the hectic Test season, they will be seen in action in the highly anticipated upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh starting on September 18.

SKY, Gill, Jaiswal To Be In Focus In Duleep Trophy 2024

Meanwhile, the tournament is expected to feature various centrally-contracted players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and many more.

Rishabh Pant's selection along with that of KL Rahul will be closely watched since one of them is coming back from a horrific car accident in 2022 whereas the latter from an injury suffered earlier this year.

The reports also suggest that Mohammed Shami, who has shown remarkable dedication in his recovery from surgery months ago, could stage a comeback in one of the games as he is currently in the final stages of rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru.
