After the celebratory mood in Bengaluru turned into a nightmare outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has made it loud and clear that they had nothing to do with the tragic chaos. In a no-nonsense statement, the cricket body distanced itself from the RCB victory celebrations that led to a stampede claiming 11 lives.

Karnataka State Cricket Association Denies Blame for RCB Stampede

KSCA was quick to clarify that the grand felicitation bash was not their brainchild. In fact, they pointed out that the event didn’t even happen at Chinnaswamy, it was held at Vidhana Soudha under the watchful eye of Karnataka’s top brass, including the Chief Minister, Deputy CM, cabinet ministers and senior cops.

“The decision to hold the event was taken by the government. It was conducted at Vidhana Soudha, not at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The celebration was facilitated by the government itself, in the presence of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, and senior police officials,” said KSCA in a statement, adding that they just rent out the stadium and deal with cricket stuff.

RCB, DNA Entertainment And Karnataka Government Under The Scanner

With the Cubbon Park Police registering an FIR against RCB, event managers DNA Entertainment and KSCA, the cricket association isn’t taking it lying down. Their legal team has already filed a writ petition in the Karnataka High Court asking for the FIR against their office bearers to be quashed.

“The petitioners cannot be held responsible for the lapses in gate and crowd control, which were clearly under the purview of RCB, the organisers, and the police,” it said.

They are calling it a serious miscarriage of justice and even flagged the fact that the police’s own suspension orders put the blame on themselves for not handling the crowd.

KSCA Denies Involvement In The Celebrations

The association minced no words when it said the petitioners (KSCA office bearers) were being unfairly targeted.

“The police cannot victimise the petitioners for faults that are clearly not theirs,” they said, adding that the real responsibility lies with RCB, the organisers and the government machinery that gave the green signal.

They also pointed out that the tragic stampede was triggered by a sudden rush in the crowd and had no signs of any foul play.

Meanwhile, with the Karnataka High Court already on the case through a suo moto hearing, all eyes are now on how this legal tussle unfolds.
