In contrast, the Shubman Gill-led Titans look one of the leading contenders in making to the playoffs as IPL 2025 season heads towards its decisive stage. All praise for captain Gill, Gujarat Titans COO Colonel Arvinder Singh recently stated that the franchise has invested in the charismatic Indian batter on a long-term basis.
Gujarat Titans COO hails Shubman Gill
Gujarat Titans COO Colonel Arvinder Singh has said that the franchise made Shubman Gill as new team captain by thinking its long-term prospects. Singh added that the franchise specifically chose Gill as captain after IPL 2022 winning skipper Hardik Pandya moved on to Mumbai Indians prior to the 2024 edition of the tournament. He said:
“At Gujarat Titans, whatever we do, we don't do it for a season or two; we think long-term. When Hardik moved on, many were of the opinion that we had players who can just walk in and take on the role of a captain, but we chose to invest in Shubman. This decision clearly indicated that we were investing in Shubman for the long term, not just for a single season. The results of that investment are now evident.”
Arvinder Singh further stated that Shubman Gill is very open to learning from other senior teammates like Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan and co., and his growth as Gujarat Titans captain will also benefit the Indian national team in the long run.
“We've had several senior players in the team, including Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, and Kane Williamson. Shubman is someone who is very open to learning from others. The transformation in his leadership from last year to this year is remarkable; he is truly stepping up as the leader on the field. It's inspiring to witness, and I believe this growth will benefit not only the Gujarat Titans but also the national team.”
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans franchise will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in match number 51 of the IPL 2025 season on Friday, May 2.
The match will be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
