Karun Nair celebrated his return to IPL after a gap of three years this season with a sublime 40-ball 89 against Mumbai Indians. However, Nair failed to sustain his prolific touch with the bat as he managed to aggregate just 65 runs off his subsequent five innings.
The out-of-favour Indian batter, who once yearned for a chance at top-flight cricket and expressed his feelings with a viral tweet, has now been trolled by expert commentator Aakash Chopra over his social media post from a couple of years ago.
Aakash Chopra trolls Karun Nair over old tweet
Former Indian and ex-KKR opener Aakash Chopra recalled Karun Nair’s old tweet where the latter wrote: “Dear cricket, give me one more chance.” Chopra said that while cricket did indeed give Nair a second chance, the 33-year-old has been unable to maximise his opportunities.
The prominent Indian commentator was notably lambasting Karun Nair for failing to come up clutch for Delhi Capitals in their run-chase against KKR in Delhi on Tuesday, April 29. While speaking on JioHotstar, Aakash Chopra said:
“Karun Nair hasn't made the most of the second chance that cricket has given him.”
Karun Nair was roped in by the Delhi Capitals franchise at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. In the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy season in India, the right-handed batter mounted 779 runs from just eight innings at a monumental batting average of 389.50, plundering five hundreds and one half-century in the process.
Even in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Vidarbha, Nair listed 255 runs in six innings at an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 177.08. However, in the ongoing IPL 2025 season for the Delhi Capitals, he has tallied just 154 runs from six innings despite starting out with an explosive 40-ball 89 against Mumbai Indians.
Karun Nair and the rest of his Delhi Capitals teammates will now face SRH in match 55 of the IPL 2025 season on Monday, May 5 in Hyderabad.
