Social media may have entered absolute turmoil in the build-up to the ICC World Cup 2023 semifinal on Wednesday (November 15) between India and New Zealand over pitch allegations but the Indian dressing room wasn't short of calmness and stability.

In fact, oblivious to the nastiness and negative remarks on the outside after English media journalists reported claims of pitch-tinkering against the Indian team and triggered chaos about a used-up surface for the knock-out clash against the BlackCaps.

That sense of calm and ignorance of the chaos outside were evident in the way Shubman Gill spoke with the press following India's comprehensive victory by a margin of 70 runs. Gill gave an amusing response to the queries on the pitch controversy by stating he wasn't aware of the whole matter until told during the media interaction.

The 24-year-old warmed the spree of Indian journalists present for the interaction with the Team India opener after his magnificent knock of 80* played an instrumental role in the memorable triumph which avenged the painstaking 2019 defeat in Manchester.

Shubman Gill's Hilarious Response To Pitch Controversy

When asked whether the entire controversy related to the pitch spurred the Indian team on for the encounter against the BlackCaps, Gill responded by revealing he had no idea there were talks about the playing surface in the build-up to the match.

Instigating laughter during the press briefing, Gill said:

"Mujhe toh abhi pata laga pitch ke uppar controversy hui thi (I just learnt there was a controversy related to the pitch)."

The youngster even asked the press journalists with a wide grin:

"Kya controversy thi? (what exactly was the controversy)."

Ultimately all the speculations of a used-up surface favouring Indian spinners were dispelled by the match proceedings where India piled on a mammoth 397/4 in their 50 overs and New Zealand responded with 327 all out in 48.5 overs with experienced seamer Mohammad Shami with his 7 for 57 emerging as the stand-out bowler from either side.
