'All Those Morons ...': Gavaskar Hits Back At Controversial Pitch Reports For IND-NZ Semi-Final

The semi-final clash between India and New Zealand of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 got clouded with controversy after several news agencies alleged that BCCI asked for a pitch change from ICC, a claim that since has been rubbished by both authorities.

The high-scoring encounter produced as many three-centuries, and batters found it rather easy to play their shots, thanks to the slow nature of the track, which witnessed India beat New Zealand by 70 runs.

Known for his outright views, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar did not hold his anger post the conclusion of the match and lashed out at such rumor-mongers. As quoted by Hindustan Times, Gavaskar urged all such keyboard critics to "shut up", and stop "taking potshots" at Team India for the sake of gaining attention.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"When India reaches the final of any multi-nation tournament, it is always a matter of great pride and if it is the World Cup, it's that much more special. India have done it in style. They scored close to 400 runs, and had that extra 70-80 runs cushion. This has been such a wonderful pitch. We've got more than 700 runs scored on this.

All those morons who have been saying that the pitch has been changed to favour the Indian spinners, I hope they just shut up, stop taking potshots at India just because it helps you to get whatever eyeballs. It's nonsense. Even if it was changed, it was done before the toss. It wasn't changed after the toss or in the middle of the innings. You are a World Cup team, you play on that pitch, you win. India have done that. So stop talking about the pitch,"

Meanwhile, India will take on the winner of the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa in the World Cup 2023 Final on Sunday.
