The ICC Cricket World Cup provides an opportunity for new-age stars to be unearthed and the 2023 edition has found its shining light in New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra

In his maiden World Cup, Ravindra impressed one-and-all with his steady, composed, and calculative batting all across the competition, which saw the youngster break several records.

During New Zealand's semi-final clash against India in Mumbai on Wednesday, Ravindra equaled skipper Kane Williamson's record for scoring the most runs for a Kiwi batter in a single edition of the World Cup.

With 578 runs, Ravindra is on-par with Williamson's tally, which the batter achieved in the 2019 World Cup edition, where New Zealand played the final.

Opener Martin Guptill was the first to surpass the 500 mark for New Zealand in the World Cup, amassing 547 in the 2015 edition.

Interesingly, Ravindra is only the third Black Caps batter to score more than 500 runs in a single World Cup.

The 23-year-old needed just one run to surpass Williamson but ended up giving an edge to wicketkeeper KL Rahul off Mohammed Shami's bowling for a 22-ball 13.

Earlier, Ravindra had already broken the record for most runs in the World Cup as debutant going past England wicketkeeper-batter Jonathan Bairstow's tally of 532 runs, which the latter slammed during the Three Lions' title-winning campaign in 2019.

Riding high on World Cup performance, Ravindra has been inducted into New Zealand's Test squad for their upcoming two-match in Bangladesh.
