Former Pakistan cricket star & team director Mohammad Hafeez has criticised the national team following their early exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

The team, led by Babar Azam, finished third in Group A, winning two matches and losing two, including a stunning Super Over defeat to co-hosts USA. This performance led to intense criticism from fans and former players.

Speaking to Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist on the 'Club Prairie Fire' podcast, Mohammad Hafeez shared a shocking incident from his tenure as interim head coach.

"You tell me, Gilly, if a player is sleeping in the dressing room while we're playing Test cricket. I went into the dressing room and found 4-5 players sleeping while playing Test cricket. I was like, 'How come you guys can do that? If you do something like this, you cannot be a part of this team," said Hafeez.

He emphasised that such behaviour is unacceptable at the international level, stressing the need for professionalism and dedication.

"But in the professional timing of the game, I want you guys to focus on the game. Stay in touch. If you are a fast bowler, you can have a rest and a good ice bath, but you need to concentrate on the game of cricket, like the other team is also doing. You cannot switch yourself off during the game."

These comments have raised serious questions about the team's discipline and commitment. Hafeez's revelations came after Pakistan's disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 performance, including losses to India and the USA.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to reassess player contracts and enforce stricter policies on participation in T20 leagues worldwide.

Hafeez's tenure as the Director of Cricket also saw challenges, including a 3-0 Test series loss to Australia and a 4-1 T20I series defeat to New Zealand.
