Australia played Bangladesh in their first Super Eights at Antigua in the evening fixture of Friday night and ahead of the game, ex-Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting presented Pat Cummins with the ICC Player of The Year award for the year 2023.

Australia's Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins was recently named as the best player of 2023. He was given his Sir Garfield Sobers Award by the great Australian captain Ricky Ponting as they kicked off the second round of their ongoing T20 World Cup campaign.

Cummins led Australia in a historic year in 2023 where they won their first-ever ICC World Test Championship at The Oval with a thumping win over India before going into the Ashes series where they retained 'The Urn' away from home, tying the intense Ashes series with 2-2.

The Aussies, under Cummins' leadership, also won the ICC Cricket World Cup after almost having a foot outside the tournament in the initial stages of the mega event before making a winning run and defeating the Indian team at their home in the final.

In 13 ODIs that he played, the speedster took 17 wickets at an economy of 5.74 while also scalping 42 wickets in 11 Tests including 3 five-wicket hauls and 10 wickets in a game.

He also added some crucial runs in Tests, including a match-winning 44* in the first Ashes Test at Birmingham while adding 55 runs alongside Nathan Lyon for the 9th wicket in a 282-run chase. In ODIs, he averaged 42 with the bat while batting towards the end.
