Wasim Akram Picks His Top Three Cricketers
According to the reports of Cricket Pakistan, Wasim Akram when asked about this top three favourites cricketers. He at the third spot chose his long-time bowling partner, Waqar Younis, whose name has become synonymous with toe-crushing yorkers and fierce pace.
Wasim Akram also mentioned that leaving Waqar out of any list of Pakistan’s greatest cricketers would be a disrespect to his talent and significant contribution for Pakistan.
“Look, I’ve been told I might go off the script here. I’ve been told that I have to pick myself up, and I’m a bit embarrassed to do that. But number three, I pick Waqar Younis,” Akram said.
For the second spot, he named legendary Javed Miandad. Renowned for his tactical brilliance and unmatched determination, he played a crucial role in shaping Pakistan’s cricketing fortunes.
“Number two is great Javed Miandad. I mean, every time you talk about greats coming out of Pakistan, Javed Miandad, his name is right up there,” he commented.
Topping Akram’s list was none other than Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan. Reflecting on Imran's remarkable impact on and off the field, Akram lauded his former captain as one of the finest allrounders to have graced the game.
“It’s got to be Imran Khan. I’ve seen him in his prime days as a cricketer, not off the field as a Playboy, but as a cricketer. I mean, he was a proper, proper allrounder. Then that era was the allrounder era—Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, Imran Khan, and then Kapil Dev from India,” he concluded.
Wasim Akram's heartfelt tribute is a reminder of the golden era of Pakistan cricket, one that produced legends who continue to influence the game today as well.
