IPL 2025 mega auction is just a couple of weeks away and buzz around 42-year-old James Anderson is rife as the retired English pacer has registered his name for the auction. Speaking on Club Prairie Fire podcast, Michael Vaughan opined that he wouldn't be surprised if Chennai Super Kings (CSK) buys Jimmy since the franchise has a history of signing aged players.

After two decades of service to England cricket, James Anderson bid farewell to international cricket earlier this year. The legendary pacer finished his Test career with 704 wickets in 188 matches and ranked 3rd on the list of most wickets in Test cricket history.

However, 42 year old Jimmy Anderson is nowhere close to being done. With the desire to play cricket until the age of 50, Anderson registered his name for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction and set his base price at INR 1.25 crores.

Will CSK be interested in buying James Anderson?

Meanwhile, discussing James Anderson's latest move on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, former England cricket Michael Vaughan shared that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are most likely to bid for James, and he wouldn't be surprised if they end up buying him.

"I wouldn't be surprised if CSK picks Jimmy Anderson at the IPL auction," Vaughan said.

CSK have had a history of forming an experienced group with the average age of players being over 30. MS Dhoni, the former captain, is also set to return in IPL 2025 at the age of 43. Hence, the likelihood of James Anderson donning the iconic yellow jersey is indeed significant.

CSK retained 5 players at the deadline and are left with INR 55 crores remaining purse. The retained players include Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni

CSK summons rookie from Mumbai for trials

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK have reportedly shown interest in youngster Ayush Mhatre from Mumbai. The rookie hit 176 runs against Maharastra in a recent Ranji Trophy game and grabbed CSK scouts attention. Hence, the franchise wrote an official email to MCA to seek permission for calling Mhatre to Chennai for trials in the middle of active Ranji season.
