‘Want them to win all 11 matches’ - Sourav Ganguly Urges India For Perfect World Cup

The Indian cricket team are playing on a different tangent than other nations in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, winning all eight matches thus far and qualifying for the semi-finals as the number-one placed side in the points table.

Team India led by Rohit Sharma, has been stellar in their performances, where they have outclassed teams like South Africa, England, and Pakistan, which has created a sense of untouchability around them.

With eight wins under their belt, India have already tied their best-ever winning streak (8) in a single edition of the World Cup, which Sourav Ganguly's team achieved in the 2003 edition in South Africa, only to be beaten by Australia in the final, who won all their 11 matches.

As quoted by the Hindustan Times, speaking on current Team India's winning run, Ganguly stated that he wished for Sharma and Co. to lift the cup and end up lifting the trophy much like Ricky Ponting's XI in 2003.

Interestingly, Australia are the only team to have won the World Cup not once but twice—2003 and 2007—without facing any defeat throughout the competition.

Here's what Ganguly said

“I saw the stat the previous day. We had won eight matches. Rohit's team also won eight. I want them to win all 11 matches,”

India will better their 2003 streak if they notch up a win against the Netherlands in their final group-stage match on Sunday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
