The World Cup 2023 is at the fag end of its league stage and in the 42nd match of the tournament, South Africa are taking on Afghanistan. Afghan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to bat first but his side kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it looked like they would fall way short of the par score. 

However, the 23-year old, Azmatullah Omarzai stood tall from one end and played a wonderful knock, mixing caution with aggression beautifully. He smashed some lusty blows along the way, smashing three sixes into the crowd. He never looked in any sort of trouble even though other batters failed to get going.

At one point in time, it looked like he would get to that magical three-figure mark but some good death bowling at the end, and lack of strike left him stranded. He was on strike in the last delivery of the innings with Rabada charging in and Azmatullah three short of his hundred. Rabada though nailed a yorker on middle and Azmatullah unfortunately failed to get it away, hitting it back to Rabada who stopped it with his foot.

Naveen-ul-Haq tried to take a single but there was no chance for it and Rabada eventually ran out Naveen-ul-Haq by knocking over stumps at the bowler's end.

It left Azmatullah Omarzai devastated as the man deserved every bit of that century. However, he has done well take his team to a competitive total and Afghans would be looking to end the World Cup on a high against a strong South African unit.
