Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah along with the rest of his national teammates are currently enjoying a rare break from international cricket. Still fresh from lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies, the speedster recently dissected the primary difference between India’s current captain Rohit Sharma and former skippers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

In a stunning revelation, Bumrah described how each of the three captains differentiated from each other and had their own unique styles of leading Team India.

Jasprit Bumrah describes Virat Kohli ‘energy-driven’

Jasprit Bumrah made his Team India debut back in 2016 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Notably, Bumrah had already thrived for several years in the IPL under the supervision of Rohit Sharma.

While speaking with The Indian Express, the Indian speedster said that Dhoni gave him a lot of “security”, and praised Sharma for showing empathy towards bowlers despite a batter. He said:

“MS Dhoni gave me a lot of security, quickly. He has a lot of faith in his instinct, and doesn't believe in a lot of planning. Rohit Sharma is one of the few captains who has empathy towards bowlers, despite being a batsman. He understands players' emotions, and knows what a player is going through. Rohit is not rigid, he is open to feedback.”

Describing Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah claimed that the legendary Indian batter was passionate and ‘energy-driven’ during his captaincy days. He even stated that even though Virat is no longer a captain today, he is still a leader within the team. Bumrah added:

“Virat Kohli is energy-driven, passionate, wears his heart on his sleeve. He pushed us in terms of fitness, and changed the narrative that way. Now Virat is not the captain, but he is still a leader. Captaincy is a post, but a team is run by 11 people.”

Jasprit Bumrah will be expected to return to India’s international setup for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home.
