Perth Scorchers Academy lost opening batter Corey Wasley to Bangladesh’s new-ball striker Ripon Mondol early in the innings. Wasley’s downfall was followed by a courageous rescue act from Teague Wyllie, who charted four boundaries in his cautious 56-run defiance to list his second half-century of the tournament.

Baxter Holt at number three also punched 34 runs from 26 balls before some late wickets restricted the Scorchers to 129-5 from 20 overs.

Apart from cleaning up Corey Wasley, Ripon Mondol also blazed through a well-set Holt to bag figures of 2-19. Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan also struck twice from his end while Abu Hider chipped in with a wicket.

Chasing 130 for a spot in the semifinals, Bangladesh High Performance XI lost three of their top four batters to Matthew Kelly (3-8) all inside in the opening powerplay to slip to 15-3 at one stage of the innings. Opening batter Jishan Alam also followed suite a while later after listing a run-a-ball 26.

Captain Akbar Ali fought back for his team with a counterattacking 35 from 33 balls, featuring a boundary and three sixes. However, Jhye Richardson halted Bangladesh’s gaining momentum by cleaning up Ali and by getting rid of a well-set Shamim Hossain.

Slipping to 89-6 in 16.1 overs, number eight batter and 19-year-old Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby smeared 32 unbeaten runs from just 13 balls to take Bangladesh High Performance XI home in a thrilling final over. Rabby’s match-winning knock was laced with two boundaries and two sixes, which eventually prompted his team to seal a spot in the top four.
