Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri recently passed a bold statement on Virat Kohli's IPL success, stating that if the tournament were an individual sport, the acclaimed batter would have ended up with the most title wins.

Virat Kohli, widely regarded as one of the finest talents of this generation, has been with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.

While Virat Kohli is responsible for escalating the franchise's hype and popularity, the absence of a trophy continues to undermine the acclaimed batter's individual brilliance.

Shastri's interesting take on Kohli's stature

Highlighting the same, former Indian Head coach Ravi Shastri made a bold claim while talking to Star Sports. Shastri opined that, with IPL being an individual sport, Virat Kohli would have easily fetched the most title wins in his 16-year-long tenure.

"Virat Kohli would have the most number of trophies if IPL was an individual sport," Shastri said on Star Sports.

Notably, Kohli has 7466 runs in 241 IPL games thus far, including a 973 runs blockbuster season back in 2016. He unlocked seven centuries and 52 fifties and has an average strike rate of 130.30.

Therefore, in Shastri's hypothetical scenario where the IPL is considered an individual sport, Kohli's exceptional talent and drive for success would undoubtedly make him a formidable competitor.

However, IPL is, unfortunately, a team sport for Virat Kohli. While his individual achievements are undoubtedly noteworthy, the inability to attain a title will forever stain RCB's image as a franchise.

Nonetheless, after spending 16 years with RCB, Virat Kohli is unlikely to switch teams anytime soon. For him, loyalty ranks above trophies, and he does not intend to break the fan's trust by switching teams in pursuit of an IPL trophy.
