In a high-scoring encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) edged past Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 4 wickets in Match 6 of IPL 2024.

The highlight of the match was a spectacular performance by Virat Kohli, who led the chase for a target of 177 runs set by PBKS with a sensational 77 off 49 balls, featuring 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror contributed significantly towards the end of the innings with their rapid cameos, ensuring RCB's victory.

Reflecting on the game and the atmosphere, Virat Kohli highlighted the importance of not getting carried away by the early success in the tournament.

He stressed that while statistics and achievements are part of the game, the lasting memories are made through the experiences and relationships built over the years.

“Don't get too overexcited (to the crowd roaring). It's only two games. I know what this means. When you play sport, the achievements, the stats, the numbers. Look, at the end of the day, it's about when you look back, you're not going to think of the numbers and the stats. It's the memories that you create,” said Kohli.

Kohli also expressed gratitude for the support and love he has received throughout his career.

“Just the love and the appreciation and the backing I've received for so many years, that's been amazing,” added the former RCB skipper.

Furthermore, Kohli touched upon the evolution of his role in T20 cricket, acknowledging the expectations placed on him as a promoter of the game globally.

“I mean, you have to come up with a game plan here and there and try to keep improving your game. I know my name is nowadays quite attached to just promoting the game in many parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket, but still, got it, I guess (laughs),” reckoned the Indian stalwart.

Kohli was thankful for a unique period where, away from the limelight, he and his family experienced normalcy and anonymity for two months.

"I mean, look, when you're completely at ground level, you can say, we were not in the country, we were at a place where people were not recognizing us, just time together as a family, just to feel normal for two months, for me, for us as a family, was a surreal experience. Of course, having two kids, things become totally different from a family perspective. So just the ability to be together, the connections that you make with your older child, it's amazing. I mean, I couldn't have been more grateful to god for the opportunity that I got to spend time with my family and, yeah, just the place that we were in,” opined the dynamic opener.

Furthermore, Kohli emphasized that his focus has shifted away from personal accolades such as caps or awards. Instead, his primary aim is to support his team in any capacity possible.

"Well, I don't play for caps and all that anymore, to be honest. I mean, it's for me, an opportunity to help my team. That's the only thing that I've given to Indian cricket, to RCB, and that's the promise I can give here. It's not the orange cap, but I'll keep turning up and keep trying my best. That's it," concluded Kohli.

Meanwhile, RCB is set to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 10 of IPL 2024, with hopes of continuing their winning momentum in Bengaluru.
