Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20I cricket on June 29 after Team India lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados. The modern-day batting legend packed a match-winning knock of 76 in the final against South Africa to conclude his illustrious 20-overs international career on a high note.

Kohli’s ‘good friend’ and India’s soccer icon Sunil Chhetri also retired from international football earlier in the same month after playing his last match against Kuwait in Kolkata. As evidenced by their extensive interactions, the two sporting greats share an excellent camaraderie with each other.

Quite recently, Sunil Chhetri spoke in detail about his friendship with Virat Kohli and also revealed an unseen side of the Indian cricketer.

Sunil Chhetri says Virat Kohli can ‘crack anyone up’

While speaking about his friendship with Virat Kohli on a YouTube podcast with Raj Shamani, Sunil Chhetri described the Indian cricketer as ‘amazingly funny’ who can ‘crack’ anyone up. The former Indian footballer also expressed his love and respect for Kohli and his family, and stated that they share a great friendship because of their similar upbringing and dreams, albeit for two different sports.

Moreover, Sunil Chhetri claimed that Kohli sends him hilarious memes, and they also find time to talk about life with each other.

Back in May this year, Virat Kohli shared his heartfelt wishes for Sunil Chhetri after the latter set his retirement date from international football. Taking to social media, the Indian cricketer wrote: “My brother, proud.”

Sunil Chhetri has often described himself as a vivid fan of Indian cricket and a follower of Virat Kohli-famed RCB franchise. Back during the IPL 2023 season in India, the two sporting legends even met with each other at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru prior to RCB’s home match against Mumbai Indians.
