Rahul Dravid, as coach, led India to their first ICC trophy in 11 years by defeating South Africa in the T20 World Cup final by 7 runs.

Following this victory, Dravid resigned as coach, and Gautam Gambhir, KKR, mentor of 2024 IPL season succeeded him until the 2027 World Cup.

Indian team celebrated their ICC T20 World Cup victory with great passion, organizing a grand parade in Mumbai and meeting fans at Wankhede where India won 2011 ODI World Cup.

Why did Dravid reduced his T20 WC Bonus?

The BCCI announced a total cash reward of Rs. 125 crore for the team, coaching staff, and support staff for the World Cup win. Dravid's share as head coach was initially set at Rs. 5 crore, while other coaches were to receive Rs. 2.5 crore each.

However, according to a Hindustan Times report, Dravid requested his reward be reduced to Rs. 2.5 crore to ensure parity with the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches.

"Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs. 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments," a BCCI source said.

Rahul Dravid has a history of advocating for equal rewards. Previously, when India's Under-19 team won the World Cup in 2018, Dravid was offered 50 lakhs as head coach, while other coaches received 20 lakhs and players 30 lakhs.

The former India coach objected to this inequality, which made the BCCI to revise the distribution, ensuring that everyone, including players and coaches, received an equal reward of 25 lakhs each.
