Brief Scores: South Africa Women: 84 all out (17.1 overs) [Tazmin Brits: 20 (23), Anneke Bosch: 17 (14); Pooja Vastrakar 4/13 (3.1), Radha Yadav 3/6 (3)] lost to India Women: 88-0 (10.5 overs) [Smriti Mandhana: 54* (40), Shafali Verma: 27* (25)] by 10 wickets.

India Women walloped their South African counterparts by 10 wickets in the series-decider at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium to level their three-match T20I rubber 1-1.

Pooja Vastrakar, Radha Yadav flatten SA in decider

Shreyanka Patil struck early for Team India by removing South African captain and opening batter Laura Wolvaardt for a run-a-ball nine in the fourth over. New-ball pace operator Pooja Vastrakar subsequently romped through South Africa’s middle-order with a fiery three-wicket burst. The speedster got the better of Marizanne Kapp, Anneke Bosch and Nadine de Klerk in quick succession as the visitors slipped to 61-5 in 10.5 overs.

Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy also chipped in with a wicket each in their respective spells, while spinner Radha Yadav skittled South Africa’s lower-half to finish with sizzling figures of 3-6 from three overs. Vastrakar had South African number nine Eliz-Mari Marx caught behind by Uma Chetry to claim her fourth wicket of the innings, as the Proteas crumbled out for just 84 in 17.1 overs.

Smriti Mandhana, Shafali lead India’s 10-wicket win

Firebrand Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma marched on to a wicketless 40-run powerplay start to extinguish all South African hopes in the series-decider. Mandhana even went on to notch up a well-compiled 54* from just 40 deliveries with eight boundaries and two sixes to her name, while unbeaten Shafali finished at 27* from 25 balls to guide Team India home with more than nine overs and all 10 wickets intact.

The outcome helped India Women level their three-match series against South Africa by a 1-1 margin.
