Former Indian women’s captain Anjum Chopra has named a bunch of World Cup 2023 bound stars who will likely make a huge impact in the tournament. Mere days prior to the cricketing carnival, the 46-year-old picked the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner and Babar Azam among her favourites, and reserved her best compliments for batting great Virat Kohli and his likely successor Shubman Gill.

Chopra even claimed that Kohli’s presence in the Indian team will serve as a huge inspiration for Gill to perform at the mega event in India.

Anjum Chopra heaps praise for Kohli, Gill

Anjum Chopra was recently asked to predict the standout performers of the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India. Without hesitation, she named Australian batting veterans David Warner and Steve Smith as two players who would surely love to slap a notable mark at the tournament.

She also picked Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Pakistan captain Babar Azam alongside England’s rising star Harry Brook as some of the players to watch out for in the multi-nation event. In an interview with Mykhel.com, Anjum Chopra said:

“Steve Smith would want to make it count. So will David Warner. Kusal Mendis would be their (Sri Lanka’s) key player. Babar Azam is always there. Harry Brook is also coming into the England squad by replacing Jason Roy.”

The former women’s batting star further heaped lavish praise on all-time great Virat Kohli and his likely successor Shubman Gill. She compared Kohli with a “Tiger”, and Gill with another “Tiger” who will be highly influenced by his senior teammate in the side.

“Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are surely going to be players to watch out for. Virat Kohli will be like a tiger. Shubman Gill will become another tiger watching Virat Kohli play like a tiger.”

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were both included in India’s 15-player World Cup 2023 squad announced earlier this month.

While Kohli will enter the tournament as one of the seniormost members of the ‘Men in Blue’ side, Gill will take field as ODI’s highest run-aggregator of the year.

Team India will launch their World Cup 2023 campaign with a match against Australia on October 8. The much-awaited contest will be played out in Chennai.
