'Future Of India' - Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad's Mohali Masterclass Hailed By Ex-Opener

India’s latest opening combination Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad catered their side to an easy win over Australia with their monumental stand at the top in Mohali. The latter of the two cricketers was tasked to open the Indian innings alongside Gill after regular opener and skipper Rohit Sharma was rested from the series’ first two matches.

As it turned out, both Gaikwad and Gill charted sparkling 70s upfront and laid out a concrete foundation of a clinical Indian run-chase against Australia.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra praised the two emerging Indian stars for their match-winning effort, and dropped a huge remark on their future after their Mohali run-fest.

Chopra heaps huge praise on Gill, Gaikwad

World Cup 2023 bound opening batsman Shubman Gill top-scored in the innings with a scintillating 74, while his partner Ruturaj Gaikwad fine-tuned himself for the Asian Games in China with a suave 71.

The two, with their 142-run opening partnership, accounted for nearly half of India’s 276-run task inside 22 overs of the innings itself.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra claimed that seeing them bat together felt like witnessing the “future of India” batting in the middle. A former opener himself, Chopra praised the two for their traditional batting approach and acknowledged Gaikwad for making full use of his rare opportunity in the side.

The cricket expert, in his YouTube channel, said:

“Ruturaj Gaikwad gets very few opportunities. His chances will be few and far in between till Rohit Sharma is playing and Shubman Gill is there with him.”

“When Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill were batting, it seemed like the future of India was batting. Both are correct batters and are easy on the eye. They don’t play agricultural shots or manufacture strokes.”

Team India, already 1-0 up in the series owing to Gill and Gaikwad’s batting masterclass in Mohali, will now face the visiting Australians in the second ODI on September 24.

The match will be played out at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
