Two of the biggest sporting personalities in the world are Cricketer Virat Kohli and Tennis player Novak Djokovic. Both Kohli and Djokovic have craved a name for themselves in their respective sports and stamped their mark on the global stage time and time again.
On Monday, Kohli became the fastest batter to breach the 13,000-run mark in ODIs, bettering even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The Indian batter scored a magnificent 122* against Pakistan in a Super 4s encounter in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 last evening.
India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has highlighted parallels between Kohli and Djokovic, who started under the shadows of several legends and managed to make a niche for themselves.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) likened Kohli's laurels to that of Djokovic while praising the former's 13,000 ODI runs record.
Here's what Karthik said
"To get it in 267 innings is unreal. It is very much comparable to what Novak Djokovic has done because when he started his career, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were flying, and they reached a point where they said no man in the open era can reach what they have done. But Djokovic has come and said, 'I am going to change everything about that.'.
He has gone on to achieve more than them in terms of numbers. What this man has achieved in 267 innings is come close to some of the greats who have played the game, and we are adding up all the formats."
Over the weekend, Djokovic claimed his fourth US Open title, which was his 24th Grand Slam singles trophy; a world record the Serbian shares with Margaret Court.
