England fast bowler Mark Wood has praised India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, calling him the best bowler in the world at the moment. Speaking during the first Test at Headingley, Wood said Bumrah is a match-winner and a big challenge for any batter.
Bumrah dominated England on Day 2 of the Headingley Test between India and England. He picked up 3 wickets in form Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and the dangerous Joe Root. The right-arm pacer was the only Indian bowler to fetch wickets on Day 2, and he could have had more if not for two dropped catches and a no-ball.
Mark Wood Highly Moved By Jasprit Bumrah
England’s speedster, Mark Wood, was highly impressed with Jasprit Bumrah. Talking to Sky Sports and quoted by India Today, he referred to him as the best bowler in the world who can shift momentum at any stage of the game. Wood added that Jasprit is quicker than he looks, and it's difficult to read him.
"He's a phenomenal bowler in all formats and extremely dangerous. I can honestly say he's very difficult to pick and face. He's quicker than he looks. Right now, he's the best bowler in the world-and he's capable of changing the course of a match at any moment," Wood said.
Mark Wood, who is recovering from knee surgery, is not playing in the series but said he hopes to return for the final Test. He added that watching Bumrah bowl from the sidelines shows how valuable he is to India’s team.
Despite Bumrah’s dominance, the rest of India’s bowling lineup looks lifeless. Prasidh Krishna, Siraj, and Shardul Thakur leaked 56, 50, and 23 runs, respectively, on Day 2 as England managed to post 209 runs at stumps on Day 2.
Bumrah Unhappy With India’s Bowling Effort?
In a social media post, Jasprit Bumrah was visibly frustrated on Day 2 of the Leeds Test as India’s fielders and bowlers let England off the hook. Despite his fiery three-wicket haul, sloppy fielding and lack of support from the bowling unit allowed England to reach 209/3.
Cameras showed Bumrah having an intense conversation with head coach Gautam Gambhir during Shardul Thakur’s first over, clearly unhappy with the team’s effort. Bumrah had dismissed Zak Crawley early and later bowled Ben Duckett and Joe Root. He nearly got Harry Brook too, but it was a no-ball. His performance stood tall on a mixed day for India.
