Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah dismissed England’s prolific number four Joe Root in the final session of Day 2 of the series-opening first Test at Headingley in Leeds. Bowling in one of his return spells, Bumrah induced a thick outside edge off Root, with Karun Nair at first slip safely snapping up a sharp catch.

The dismissal signaled India’s fightback after a courageous 80-run partnership formed between Root and well-set centurion and number three batter Ollie Pope, shortly after England soared past the 200-run mark. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah’s prized breakthrough also inched him closer to Australian legend Pat Cummins in a rare list.

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Joe Root for the tenth time in Test cricket, doing so with his latest success against the prolific Englishman on Saturday, June 21 in Headingley. Root, one of the most lucrative run-aggregators in modern-day Tests with an average of over 50, now averages just 29 against Bumrah, having scored 290 runs against him at a strike rate of 50.9 with 10 dismissals.
