Ravi Shastri Lashes Out At India’s Pacers After Jasprit Bumrah’s Lone Fight "Hope Someone..."

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri did not mince words when assessing the performance of India’s pace attack after Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against England at Headingley. While praising Jasprit Bumrah for yet another high-quality performance with the ball, Shastri raised the alarm over the lack of support from fellow seamers Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna. He also expressed his concern over Jasprit Bumrah’s mounting workload.

Speaking to Sky Cricket as quoted by Hindustan Times, Ravi Shastri said:

"There's a big difference in levels. The concern is Bumrah and what his workload will be as the series progresses, because he is the one man who is expected to pick wickets every spell he bowls," Shastri said. "I just hope someone at the other end puts their hands up."

India Lose Momentum After Batting Collapse

India began Day 2 in a commanding position at 324/2, and looked set for a mammoth first-innings score as Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill continued their dominant form. However, a shocking lower-order collapse saw the last seven wickets tumble for just 41 runs, ending the innings at 471 runs.

Bumrah Leads The Way Again, But Alone

On Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer again. He ended the day with 3 and conceded 48 runs in 13 overs. He struck with a peach in his very first over to remove Zak Crawley, followed it up by dismissing Ben Duckett and then got the big wicket of Joe Root for the 10th time in Tests.

In stark contrast, Siraj, Shardul, and Prasidh went wicketless and leaked a combined 154 runs, failing to apply sustained pressure on the English batters despite favourable scoreboard conditions after India’s first-innings total.

What To Expect On Day 3?

On Day 3, England will aim to bat deep and erase the first-innings deficit, with Pope leading the charge. India, on the other hand, desperately needs early wickets to regain control, and the rest of the bowlers need to step up and support Jasprit Bumrah.
