At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making the world sit up and take notice. The young prodigy has already smashed records, stunned Indian players and captured fans’ hearts with his fearless batting. His performances in IPL 2025 left people wondering if he could really be that young.
Watching him dominate some of India’s best pacers, including Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma, made even experts question his age.
Hayden left in shock by Suryavanshi's power-hitting
Former India coach Ravi Shastri recently shared a remarkable story about Vaibhav on the Willow Talk show. During one of IPL 2025’s standout matches in Jaipur, Shastri recalled, Matthew Hayden, the Australia batting legend, couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Haydos said, ‘Oh, he can’t be 14!’ while watching Vaibhav smash Siraj and Ishant all over the park,” Shastri said. He added with a laugh, “I just told him, ‘Come on, calm down.’”
Notably, Vaibhav’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. He first caught attention when Rajasthan Royals signed him for a whopping ₹1.1 crore at just 13 years old. By 14, he had already become the youngest player in IPL history to score a hundred, smashing one against Gujarat Titans.
The Bihar batter's fearless batting continued on the international stage as well. Against England U19, he scored a blistering 143 off just 78 balls. Australia U19 bowlers faced the same fate when he hammered 104 runs from 62 balls in the first Youth Test held in Chennai.
But perhaps the most jaw-dropping performance came on April 28 at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Vaibhav blazed his way to a 35-ball century, hitting seven fours and 11 towering sixes, helping Rajasthan Royals chase 210 runs in just 16 overs.
Even after these feats, Vaibhav shows no signs of slowing down. He recently scored 113 off 86 balls against Australia U19 in Brisbane. Currently, he is playing in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season for Bihar and has been named the team’s vice-captain.
