In a significant development, the 14-year-old rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Bihar team for the first two matches of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. The team will be led by Sakibul Gani.
The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) announced a 15-member squad, which will compete in the Plate Group this season. Bihar will play its first two matches against Arunachal Pradesh (Oct 15–18) and Meghalaya (Nov 1–4), both to be held at the Moinul Haq Stadium in Patna.
Bihar named Vaibhav Suryavanshi as vice-captain
It is important to mention that Vaibhav Suryavanshi comes into this year's Ranji Trophy on the back of an outstanding form. He recently impressed during India Under-19’s tour of Australia. In the first Test match, the star batter scored a blistering century at Brisbane. However, in the series, he finished as the second-highest run-scorer. The young player made 133 runs in three innings at the strike rate of 131.68 and an average of 44.33.
Followed by the Test series, the team played in the 3-match ODI series. Suryavanshi scored 124 runs in three matches at a strike-rate of 112.73 and an average of 41.33. In the second ODI, he was the star performer and made 70 runs off 68 balls.
It is vital to note that Suryavanshi earlier made headlines in 2025 in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also became the youngest player to score a century for the Rajasthan Royals. He made 101 off just 38 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
He was signed by RR (IPL 2025) before turning 14, becoming the youngest player ever picked in IPL history.
