Former India captain Virat Kohli has once again caught everyone’s attention, this time not with his batting, but with a mysterious social media post. After landing in Australia for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series, Kohli shared a cryptic message on X that immediately went viral. His post read:

"The only time you truly fail, is when you decide to give up."

Virat Kohli’s message sparks debate online

Fans instantly began speculating about the meaning behind these words. The timing of the post added more fuel to rumours that Kohli might soon retire from ODI cricket. Many are wondering whether the star batter will continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Kohli, known for being selective about his personal posts, hasn’t shared anything like this in months. The message came just as he returned to international cricket after a break. Notably, his last appearance for India was earlier this year during the Champions Trophy, which India won against New Zealand.

India’s tour of Australia marks their return to ODI cricket after seven months. It is also a special series because Shubman Gill will captain the team for the first time in this format. Veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both rejoined the squad, but questions remain about how long they’ll continue playing ODIs.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir wished the senior players well, saying he hopes both Kohli and Rohit enjoy their time in Australia and perform strongly.

Meanwhile, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has recently put an end to rumours suggesting that the upcoming Australia ODI series could be the final international appearance for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shukla made it clear that there has been no discussion within the board about their retirement. He emphasised that the decision to step away from international cricket will be completely up to the players themselves.

The Indian team left for Australia on October 15, with the players arriving in Perth on October 16. The first ODI will be played on October 19.
