Former England captain Nasser Hussain has heaped praise on KL Rahul for his disciplined and thoughtful approach to Test cricket, calling him a very good note-taker. He recalled how Rahul had documented his experience from the previous England tour to prepare for the 2025 series.

Rahul, who is currently enjoying his most successful Test series in England with over 500 runs, showed immense character during India’s comeback innings at Old Trafford.

After the top order collapsed to 0/2 in the first over, Rahul, along with Shubman Gill, defied England’s bowling attack, batting through two sessions and forming a record-breaking third-wicket partnership of 174* runs.

Nasser Hussain Moved By KL Rahul’s Approach After Resurgence

Speaking about KL Rahul’s preparations, Nasser Hussain shared a personal anecdote. Talking to Sky Sports, the ex-England captain revealed that Rahul had documented his learnings from previous tours to England in a book and intended to review them before heading back for the 2025 series.

“I spoke to him in India when I went out. He was doing his shoot with one of his sponsors. I asked, ‘When will you start preparing?’ He said, ‘I’m going to get my little book out’. He’s a very good note-taker; he said he will look back at the notes he made on the previous tour of England and come early and just remind himself of what he did in the last tour when he had some success. And he has repeated it on this tour,” Hussain said.

This meticulous method of preparation has paid off. Rahul flew to England immediately after completing his IPL stint with the Delhi Capitals on May 24 and played a warm-up match against the England Lions, scoring 116 and 51. Those early matches helped him adjust to conditions and get momentum rolling for the Test series.

Now, he is the second-highest run scorer of the Anderson-Tendulkar series with 2 hundreds and several impactful knocks.

KL Rahul Breaches 9000-Run Mark In International Cricket

India’s seasoned opener KL Rahul achieved a significant milestone during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. Battling a massive 311-run deficit, Rahul steadied India’s innings alongside Shubman Gill.

In the process, he crossed 9,000 runs across formats, becoming the 16th Indian to do so. The Karnataka batter reached the landmark at 14* in the second innings. Having debuted in 2014, Rahul now joins elite company, including Tendulkar, Kohli, Dravid, Dhoni, and Rohit among India’s all-time run-getters.
