KL Rahul waged Team India’s resistance alongside captain and number four batter Shubman Gill on Day 4 of the fourth Test of the series against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. Up against a first innings deficit of 311 runs, Team India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and comeback man Sai Sudharsan both for ducks without notching up a run on the board.

Rahul subsequently forged a near 100-run partnership with Gill to restore order amid early chaos and keep India’s hopes flickering in Manchester. Through the course of his fighting innings, KL Rahul also unlocked a major batting milestone in his career.

KL Rahul Joins League Of Indian Greats

KL Rahul has completed 9,000 runs in his international career through his fighting innings against England on Day 4 of the Manchester Test. The cricketer achieved the feat after reaching 14* in the second Indian innings of the match, at a time when he was sowing seeds of a rebellious partnership with captain Shubman Gill.

With his latest milestone, KL Rahul has become the 16th Indian cricketer in history to breach the 9,000-run landmark figure across all formats combined. He made his international debut back in December 2014 through a Test match against Australia at the MCG.

While Sachin Tendulkar tops the overall Indian run-scoring charts with 34,357 runs; other players with over 9,000 runs include the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, VVS Laxman, current head coach Gautam Gambhir and India’s ODI World Cup winning captains MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev.

Team India Struggle For Survival Against England

Team India conceded a 311-run first innings lead against England by Day 4 of the Manchester Test. With series on the line, the Indian batters started off their second innings by losing two quick wickets.

At the time of publishing, India reached 98-2 to find themselves another 213 runs away from England.
