Pakistan were shown the exit door by Sri Lanka as Babar Azam's men got knocked out of the Asia Cup 2023, losing a must-win clash by two wickets.

In the all-important Super Four fixture versus Sri Lanka, Pakistan were completely blown away in the second half. While it looked as if the Men in Green could gather an easy win after setting a target of 252 runs for Sri Lanka to chase.

However, a complete annihilation at the hands of Kusal Mendis (91), Sadeera Samarawickrama (48) ,and Charith Asalanka (49*) caught them off guard and led to their shambolic exit from the tournament.

Amidst the criticism that Pakistan are facing due to the fact that they lost to Sri Lanka, who were not even at their full strength, Shaheen Shah Afridi tweeted on X, writing about his disappointment.

Shaheen mentioned that although Pakistan lost, they fought hard. He also added that Pakistan will head to the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to happen in India, better prepared.

"Disappointed with how it finished but this is not the end. We never gave up and fought all the way, and this fighting spirit should not go down. There is a bigger challenge coming our way and we will be better prepared for it In shaa'Allah. Pakistan Zindabad 🇵🇰💚," Shaheen tweeted.

While Shaheen failed to take wickets with the new ball, he brought back Pakistan in the game in the penultimate over of the game. He claimed two wickets and conceded only four runs, although his nine-over spell (2-52) was a little expensive.

The star pacer had left eight runs for Zaman Khan to defend in the final over of the innings. The debutant did well to take the equation down to six off two but Asalanka hit a four and two as Sri Lanka won in a last-ball thriller.
