'They Can't Take Bangladesh Lightly': Former Batting Coach Sanjay Bangar on India

A rivalry that has only recently taken off, Bangladesh has often produced exemplary cricket against India ever since making their ODI debut.

The records might suggest otherwise, but Bangladesh has a history of pull-off upsets against big nations, and with the trend of upsets going on in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, they could very well beat India at Pune today.

Bangladesh, who have lost two matches, and won one, will lock horns against India, who are coming into the encounter winning all their World Cup 2023 matches.

Ahead of the tie, former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has stated that Rohit Sharma and Co. will not take Bangladesh lightly despite their form in the competition.

As quoted by India Today, who worked with India as a batting coach in ICC CWC 2019, explained how matches between India and Bangladesh have gone down to the wire in World Cups.

Here's what Bangar said

"Tight game. I mean India, Bangladesh are always tight games. In the World Cup 2015, they met us in the quarterfinals. It was a close game. Even in the 2019 World Cup, they came very close to chasing 310 odd, fell short by 30.

So India will have to be at their best. Asia Cup (2012), they beat the Indian team, although it was a second-string Indian team. But Indian team knows that they can't take this game lightly because they would certainly want to catch up with New Zealand and maintain their position right at the top,"

Interestingly, this is the first time since March 1998 that Bangladesh will play an ODI against India in India.

Rahul Dravid and Paras Mhambrey featured in that match are currently Team India's head coach and bowling coach, respectively.
