On Saturday, May 24, India announced the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England away from home, which starts on June 20. In major developments, Shubman Gill has been announced as the new captain, while Rishabh Pant will serve his deputy.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, who too was touted to be in the captaincy race has not been given any leadership role. Further, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, also shed light on the recent rumours and confirmed that the India star seamer won't be available for all five-Test matches, which also led to Rishabh Pant replacing him as India's official vice-captain for the upcoming WTC cycle.

Talking about Bumrah, Agarkar remarked that the India seamer will play three to four Test matches at max.

"I don’t think he will be available for all 5 tests as far as the physio and the doctors have told us. They will take a call on whether he will be available for 3-4 tests. If he is available for 3-4 tests, he is going to win us a few test matches...We are happy that he is a part of the squad," remarked Ajit Agarkar.

Agarkar Reveals Why Pant Over Bumrah For Vice-Captain

As expected, Bumrah's injury concerns was the major reason behind him dropping out of the leadership race and the same was confirmed by Ajit Agarkar.

"More important to us a player. Once you're managing people, there's a lot that takes out of you. We've had a chat with him, he's okay with it. He knows where his body's at. KL not really, he's captained a while back, he's a quality player."

Now it is to be seen how many games will Jasprit Bumrah will play as India wouldn't want a repeat of the Australia series, where Jasprit injured his back and was out for nearly three months following that setback.
