Aakash Chopra on changes in PBKS' XI vs DC [Source: @LovepreetHothi/X.com]
Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has suggested key changes to the Punjab Kings playing XI ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals. Chopra believes PBKS should bring in Australian stars Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis now that both are available for selection.
PBKS qualified for the playoffs after a resurgent campaign in the IPL 2025 season under the leadership of previous title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer. However, their quest to finish in the top 2 is still incomplete.
On May 24, Punjab will take on Delhi, and cricket analyst Akash Chopra wants to see two Australians in the Kings’ playing XI.
PBKS’ Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis Available For Selection
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra opined that Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis’ selection into the playing XI vs DC should be a no-brainer choice for Punjab Kings. He also suggested that the team should stick with Marco Jansen and Azmatullah Omarzai as the other two overseas players.
"Both Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis are available now. It's great news. It means Mitch Owen's short career ends for some time after a zero. Keep both of them straightaway in the team. Then Marco Jansen and Azmatullah Omarzai - go with these four overseas players," Chopra said.
He added that Mitchell Owen’s time is up after he scored a duck in his last game. Moreover, having such Aussie firepower to back up young openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh is an ideal scenario for PBKS.
"A good thing that happened in the last match was that despite not winning the powerplay and being 34/3, you scored more than 200 runs. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh need to do well this time. The two kids hit a lot in the game after which the IPL was suspended," he added.
Shreyas Iyer Injured Ahead Of DC Clash
Punjab Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer played through pain against Rajasthan Royals last week, scoring 30 runs despite a finger injury. Post-match, he revealed uncertainty about how the injury occurred. Though he didn’t field, early signs suggest it’s not serious. Moreover, Iyer has had a six-day break ahead of the upcoming game vs Delhi Capitals. Hence, he must have likely recovered in time.
