As India gear up for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, former cricketer and head of the BCCI Centre of Excellence, VVS Laxman, has praised the squad for their commitment and vigorous preparation for the global tournament.

With India set to begin their campaign on October 4 in Dubai against New Zealand, Laxman believes the groundwork laid by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and her team will play a crucial role in their quest for T20I glory.

VVS Laxman Lauds India Women's Cricket Team's Strong Preparation

During an exclusive media briefing, VVS Laxman applauded the team for their efforts in a preparatory camp at the Centre of Excellence. He highlighted the dedication and focus with which the squad has approached their World Cup challenge.

"The kind of commitment, dedication, and intensity with which they practice and prepare is unmatched. I am very proud of the way they prepare," said Laxman.

India's Special Preparation For T20 World Cup 2024

The camp which was overseen by India women's team head coach Amol Muzumdar, followed a comprehensive plan designed to ensure that the players were not only physically and mentally prepared but also tactically sharp for the high-pressure matches ahead.

Beyond the usual training sessions and net practice, Muzumdar introduced a series of five practice matches that presented a variety of match situations, designed to test the players' adaptability.

Laxman emphasised that these matches simulated high-pressure scenarios, that helped the team to prepare for the unpredictable challenges they may face in the World Cup 2024.

"It was a productive camp. Amol had planned in such a manner that in the first phase of the camp, he focused on the mental and physical aspects of the game. Then there was a break, and when they came back, they focused on the skill and tactical aspect of the game. Amol created different situations and different kinds of challenges for the players. This hands-on experience will help them adapt quickly in high-pressure matches," Laxman added.

He reflected on the rapid rise of women's cricket in India and credited the Women's Premier League (WPL) for playing a crucial role in the sport's development. He likened the WPL to the IPL in providing a platform for young, uncapped players to gain exposure and transition into international cricket.

"I think there is so much upside for women's cricket. The WPL is a great initiative. Just like the IPL helped Indian uncapped players get fast-tracked into international cricket, I am sure the WPL will be a game-changer for women cricketers," said Laxman.

As India takes on New Zealand in their opening match on October 4 in Dubai, fans will be eager to see how Harmanpreet Kaur’s side capitalises on the rigorous training and preparations they have undergone.
