Amid heavy backlash directed towards Gulbadin Naib for faking a hamstring injury against Bangladesh, Indian acclaimed spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed the Afghanistan veteran, saying he did whatever he thought was in the right interest of his team and his country at large.

Afghanistan were winning as per DLS score and hinting at passing showers, Jonathan Trott urged his players to slow things down and let rain be the spoilsport. Gulbadin Naib noted his coach's instructions and faked a hamstring injury, which led to a pause in play.

However, Naib's act was horribly executed as fans exposed his antics. While a large section of critics see it as a humorous event since it had no implications on the game, many spirit of cricket torchbearers are calling for action against Naib.

Meanwhile, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dropped his take on the whole incident and backed Gulbadin Naib wholeheartedly. He said people calling Naib's antics a penalisable offence is wrong. Naib was playing for his country with the T20 World Cup semi-finals at stake.

That being said, ICC is yet to note Guladin Naib's fake cramps incident against Bangladesh and is not expected to take any action whatsoever, as Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan claimed that the veteran was indeed suffering from cramps.

On that note, Afghanistan will face South Africa in their first-ever ICC tournament semi-final tomorrow at 6.00 am as per Indian Standard Time.
